Q and A
Q & A
Is it an Institute / School?
No, this is not an institute or a school as such. It is a training program provided to individuals or groups. The training is conducted by Munish Khanna who has been a prominent professional photographer since 1993.
Do I get a certificate after the course?
It is certified that you have completed the training. However in a profession like Photography the certificate does not carry much value. It is your individual talent and the portfolio which you prepare during the training or otherwise, that helps you get work or procure a job. It is not claimed or guaranteed that an individual may get a job in photography just on the basis of this certificate. It is important to mention here, that unlike a Doctor or an Advocate, there is no minimum qualification/education of any sort required to practice Photography. One may be totally uneducated but a great photographer. However a training helps to learn or sharpen the Photographic skills. The training is aimed at providing you with the skills and experience in photography.
Do I need any prior experience or training in photography?
No the training assumes no prior training or experience in photography. We begin with fundamentals and move on to advanced aspects and techniques of photography, in a very simple, easy, carefully planned step by step method.
Is this training recognized?
This is an independent training program and is not recognized by or affiliated to any university / Board in India or abroad.
I already know a lot about photography, do I still need to go through the "basics" part of the course?
Yes, As everything is covered up methodically it will definitely add on to a strong and better understanding of the basics, clearing up all the doubts and misconceptions. However, If you want you can exclude a few days of basics from your training and pay Rs. 500/- less from the total fees. That is your effective fees will be reduced by Rs. 500/-
Do I need to quite my Job or college?
Not at all. The course schedule does not interfere with your regular routine, which is why we offer a number of convenient schedules.
Must I work Hard ?
Yes. The course lets you do a lot of hands on practice in Photography. So if you call this "Work" we work you hard. If you dont like work probably photography is not the right field for you.
Is the training long enough to cover the various aspects?
Yes. As most of the concentration is on Practical aspects of Photography in a planned and scientific manner, by the end of the course we are sure that you have sufficient knowledge and experience to start a career in Photography. Definitely more informative than a four year Bachelor of Fine Arts course, as their concentration is split over various subjects during this long period. Many of the BFA students have been doing this course for additional knowledge.
What if I need any guidance after the course?
Your relationship with your Instructor continues even after the course. You always have the assurance that the organization is there with you throughout your career for any kind of advice or help at no extra charge. Actually you pay the course fees for a lifetime of guidance, whenever you need it.
Do I need an expensive camera?
No, even a simple SLR is good enough. Even TLRs can handle most of the assignments very well. Its the eye behind the camera which makes a good picture. And we train "you" for that, not your "camera".
Are there heavy investments in pursuing photography as a career.?
We provide various facilities like studio space and lighting equipment at very nominal rents for your assignments. So you dont really have to bother about the financial investments and can concentrate on your work. In other words you have a studio of your own without making any investments.
why is the fees different for Indian and foreign students?
The fee structure is based on the fact that there are different economies across the globe. Foreign students may be paying more than the indian students but will still be paying far less than what they would have paid for a similar course abroad. In other words there is a discounted price for Indian students. Foreign students means anybody who's source of income is not in rupees but in any otehr foreign curency.
Mine is a touring job, I frequently have to go out of town. Is the course schedule suitable for me?
You can always go in for the 8 weeks option during the period you are mostly in the city. For your convenience we can also offer you to complete your course in two batches over a period of time. That is, you cover up one part of the course with one batch and the remaining portion with the next batch. Any other possibility may also be discussed.
I do not live in Delhi. Can I still do the course?
The short term course of about 8 weeks is specially designed for people living outside Delhi, Since the duration is short you need to make your staying arrangements for a lesser period, making it more convenient and cost effective for you. However the course contents are exactly the same as of the 16 weeks option.
Is not assisting an established photographer a better way of learning photography?
An established photographer would always look for a person who knows about the basics at least if not much, as he needs a helping hand rather than somebody he has to teach. You may gain additional experience by assisting a good photographer after the course.
I have been seeing other institutes who offer photography courses. How should I decide which one to join.
It is totally up to you to decide as to which institute you should join. But to draw a comparison you can take into consideration the following parameters.
a) Fees structure (b) Duration (c) course syllabus and content (d) Faculties portfolio (e) Work of previous students (f) Facilities provided
How soon do I start earning after the course?
Many of the students actually start earning by the end of the course. The guidelines are provided on how to approach prospective clients, how to make presentations, how much to charge etc. However, a lot depends on your portfolio, sooner you built up an impressive portfolio, sooner you start earning. During or within one month after the course most of the students have a good portfolio to show around for work.
Do I get individual attention?
Yes, the strength of one batch is usually restricted to about 4-5 students only, giving equal and sufficient hands on training to all. Training may be provided individually also.
Is the course expensive?
No, Its probably the lowest fees structure among the photography institutes in India or abroad.
I am an amateur photographer. As Photography is already an expensive hobby. Would not doing a course add to the expenditure.
Photography is expensive if you do not get the right results out of your investments in equipment and films etc. A small investment in the course equips you with the knowledge to get best results in every shot under any situation, giving you maximum value of the money spent. So a course in photography will rather eliminate your accidental mistakes and errors making photography a pleasant and enjoyable hobby for you. Moreover once you come in contact with the concerned people you always have a chance of selling your pictures, further making photography a less expensive hobby.
