Be aware and be alert of whats going on around you!

Good shots will not just come over to you. You need to continuously look for them. There could be something happening just around you a while you are going through and checking your earlier shots on the cameras LCD screen. There will be enough time back home for you to check out the images. While you are on the feild, continue to keep and eye on things around you.

Be fast

You should be always ready to shoot. If you do not have the right lens on the camera you should be fast enough to change. Or you may keep two bodies with you so that you do not really have to change the lens

Anticipate the moment

So many times, you can anticipate the moment, which is about to happen. If you do not have the right lens on the camera, change it now. If you are not at the right spot, better reach the right place where you can get the right view.

Shoot from the Hip

Many of us, who are used to shooting through the optical viewfinder may not find it very usual but then this practice was utilised even at the time of film as well. When the camera is not next to the eye, the subject is usually not aware that you are going to take a picture. the subject stays quite off guard with the camera at the waist level.

Wait but Don't just Wait for the right emotion!

When you see something happening, wait for the right moment to click. But sometimes, in the hope of getting a better moment, you do not click the existing moment and the better moment never comes. So shoot what you are getting and stay alert to shoot what may turn out to be even better.

Long Lenses help!

A longer focal length lens like a 400mm lens lets you shoot from quite a distance with the subject unaware of your presence. The subject does not get to know that he or she was photographed. But if you are visible, the subject may be more self conscious merely because of the size of the lens.

Reach out for Action!

You need to reach out for action, it won't come to you. You cant expect to get the actions sitting at your home.

Shoot first and think later!

Sometimes you are unsure if you should release the shutter as you see something. Think later and shoot first. If you feel it's not appropriate for anyone to see an image, keep it for yourself only. But if you do not shoot, you may later regret not taking a great shot.

Catch the moment!

Many Photographers release the shutter a bit too early or a bit too late. learn to click just at the right moment and that will come with practice and experience.

The moment does not have to an action moment but can be an expression as well.

Action repeats itself.

If you miss, do not lose heart. many actions are repetitive. You get a second chance if you missed the first one.

Shoot in between

While the subjects are posing for you, do shoot inbetween the posed shots as you will get several candid moments.

Do not hesitate to use wide angle lenses.

Yes, you read it right! candid photography can't be done with long lenses only. You can get very good natural and candid shots with wide angle lenses as well. Sometimes, when the lens on your camera is not too big the subject does not really take you so seriously. Does not feel that you might be intruding into his privacy and remains natural and unaffected by the presence of a camera around. Also, a wide angle lets you shoot from within the action.
