Are models guided during the shoot ? © munish khanna photography
yes of course. Complete guidance is provided during the shoot and all assistance is given for posing and expressions. As the shoot goes on you are shown your pictures on the camera itself or a large screen, and suggestions are given how best to improve the shots.
It's Important that you come prepared for your Portfolio, which is your first step towards a career in modeling. If you are prepared with the basic poses and know your body language, it makes easier to help you further. Within the available time, one can manage to do a number of looks in a comfortable manner.
Practice in front of the mirror as often as you can. This will help you understand your posing angles and build up your confidence. I am sure at this time of selfies most of you are already doing it. The idea is to rehearse your poses and as you practice it a number of times, your muscles are more relaxed as compared to doing it for the first time in front of the camera. There is a catch though. when you practice on your own sometimes you are not too sure if you are posing in the right manner or not. But it still helps when you step in front of the camera for your modelling portfolio. I can correct you as you go wrong and pick up what is right. I help you look your best both in terms of the body language as well as the facial expressions.
Posing is easier if you you have something to lean on or hold on to.

Service lanes are great places to shoot. There are natural backdrops and models are also more comfortable with less people around.
Guidance is required even for professional shoots. Just that professional models have already done a number of shoots already, so it is easier to guide them and pass on the required instructions. While shooting for lingerie, the model was instructed if she was to give seductive looks or not. It totally depends on your creative brief as to what kind of looks you are expecting the model to give.
For these earth Hour campaign shots, I could not have asked the actor to smile as it was all about a serious issue. The smile would have been a nice shot but out of context for the purpose of the campaign.
Emotions are important besides the correct body language. For this advertising campaign for blankets, the models were suggested to play around and be natural and spontaneous with their poses.
